PHILIPPINES TEAMS TRIUMPH IN HONG KONG MATH TILT 2005

The Philippine Teams through the leadership of Mathematics Trainers’ Guild, Philippines won a silver medal and 6 bronze medals in the 9th Po Leung Kuk Primary Mathematics World Contest (PMWC) 2005 held in Hong Kong from July 16 to 20, 2005. There were 44 teams coming from 15 countries and regions such as Australia, Bulgaria, China, HongKong, India, Japan, Macau, Malaysia, Mexico, Singapore, South Africa, Taiwan, Thailand, USA and Philippines participated in the world known elementary mathematics competition.

Carmela Antoinette Lao, a grade V student of St. Jude Catholic School was the Silver Medalist while six students namely Aileen Giselle Chua of Grace Christian School, Ervin Fredrick Dy of Chiang Kai Shek College, Rigel Steward Espiritu of San Beda College-Alabang, Marquis Alexandre' Tan of Xavier School, Patrick Adrian Ong and Vance Mikhail Uy of St. Jude Catholic School won the Bronze Medals.

Likewise, the Metro Manila Team composed of:
Carmela Lao,
Aileen Chua,
Vance Uy and
Aldric Cristobal Reyes, of Chaing Kai Shek College
also finished 1st runner up in the team event competition.

While, the Luzon Team composed of:
Earl John Chua of Grace Christian School,
Ervin Fredrick Dy of St. Stephen's High School,
Marquis Alexandre' Tan of Xavier School and
Julius Dann Tan of Chiang Kai Shek College
got the Merit Award.

Other members of the Philippine delegations were Elvis Jeremy Ayroso of St, Jude Catholic School, Kenneth Co, Mark Terrence Co and Brendon Go of Xavier School, Geraldine Baniqued of St. Paul College-Pasig and Julian Kristel Sy of Chiang Kai Shek College.

Dr. Simon L. Chua the overall chairman of the Philippine delegations believed that constant and rigid trainings and self-dedication are important factors to reap success in any competitions.

The former MTG Kids namely Raymond Salvador, Michael Tan, Alvin Gillo, Kendrick Saavedra, Llyod Chiong, Jimson Ngeo, Aiza Hung, Sam Christian Lee and Carlo Nerecena who are now in college also play a very important role why the MTG kids continuously reaped honors for our country. They shared and gave their precious time to train the MTG kids and thus bare good fruits since MTG successfully produced world-class mathematicians.

Other Team Leaders who accompanied the MTG kids were Mr. Roberto J. Degolacion, Ms. Sanet Hipolito and Mrs. Rechilda Villame while the Deputy Team Leaders were Mrs. Sylvia Ortiz (MTG Officer), Mrs. Cynthia Gayya (DOST-SEI), Mr. Leo Laparan (Reporter Bulletin Today) and Mr. Genesis Camarista (MTG Trainer, Iloilo City).
