Two Filipino math wizards claimed a bronze medal each from one of China’s toughest math contests, the 15th China Southeast Mathematical Olympiad held in Jinjiang, Fujian, China on July 28 – August 2, 2018.
The bronze medal was a courtesy of Vincent Dela Cruz, Grade 9, Valenzuela City School of Math and Science William King, Grade 10, Bethany Christian School, Cebu.
The Math Olympiad is one of the hardest and most prestigious math competitions for high school students not only in China but also in the world. The participants in this type of contest require immense dedication and hard work to solve challenging math problems.
The arduous nature of the CSMO makes it an ideal ground for IMO hopefuls, says Dr. Isidro Aguilar, MTG president.
The other members of the Philippine who braved the CSMO were Jonathan Conrad Yu, Grade 10, Philippine Christian Gospel School, Genrish Ng,Grade 10, Saint Jude Catholic School, and James Matthew Young, Grade 10, Iloilo National High School - Special Science Class.
