Seventy-one young Filipino mathletes made a powerful statement at the International Talent Mathematics Competition (ITMC) in Bangkok, Thailand held from March 23 to 26, 2025, achieving significant success with a remarkable haul of two gold, six silver, and 34 bronze medals, along with 39 merit awards.
This year’s competition saw the exceptional performances from two young gold medalists:
Danica Grizel Nacin, a Grade 10 student from Zambales National High School, a public school, demonstrated exceptional mathematical prowess, securing a gold medal. Her achievement is particularly noteworthy, highlighting the excellence attainable within the public school system.
Joshua Vaughn Asuncion, a Grade 5 student from Unida Christian Colleges, also achieved a gold medal, a remarkable feat for his age.
Dr. Isidro Aguilar, President of MTG Philippines, declared the results a truly outstanding achievement, citing the students’ dedication and its potential to shape the future of Philippine mathematics. This success underscores the strength of the country’s mathematics education system, auguring well for the discipline’s future.
The rigorous training which the young math wizards underwent from MTG Philippines, along with the support of their families and schools, has led to this remarkable success. This accomplishment inspires aspiring mathematicians nationwide and highlights the considerable mathematical talent in the Philippines.
This year’s ITMC drew nearly 600 participants from Brazil, Vietnam, Taiwan, Indonesia, Cambodia, Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Philippines and the host country, Thailand.
The Philippine delegation was composed of Mico Ventus, Myrna Agtarap and Marivic Avecilla.
