Eight Filipino students demonstrated exceptional mathematical aptitude in the American Mathematics Competition 8 (AMC , a rigorous 25-question, 40-minute examination for students in grade 8 and below. The competition assessed students’ understanding of middle school mathematics concepts, including probability, geometry, algebra, and data analysis. Their achievements underscore the growing strength of mathematics education in the Philippines.
Jenelle Nyka Lee, a grade 7 student from Chiang Kai Shek College, earned a Roll of Distinction, awarded to students scoring in the top 1%. Eight other students received Honor Roll awards, presented to students achieving scores within the top 5%: Seowoo Kwon (grade 8, International School Manila), Heal Job Esio (grade 6, Pangasinan Universal Institute), Ashton Grant Yang (grade 7, Philippine Science High School – Manila Campus), Takeharu Matsuoka (grade 7, International School Manila), Robert Henrik Uy (grade 8, St. John’s Institute – Bacolod), Annette Tiffany Yu (grade 6, St. John’s Institute – Bacolod), and Jared Connor Mari (grade 7, UNO High School).
A total of 29 Filipino students received Achievement Awards in the competition. This success reflects the increasing emphasis on STEM education within the Philippines. These students include:
