The Philippine team concluded their participation in the highly competitive 2025 South East Asian Mathematical Olympiad X (SEAMO X) Global Finals with remarkable success, bringing home a significant number of medals and awards. The competition, held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from January 17 to 20, 2025, saw approximately 1,000 students from 17 different countries and territories vying for top honors.
This year’s SEAMO X Global Finals represented the international round of the competition, bringing together SEAMO medalists from across the globe. The Philippines competed against winners from countries including Australia, Azerbaijan, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Macau, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam. The fierce competition highlighted the exceptional mathematical talent present across these diverse regions.
The Philippine team’s performance was spectacular, with a total medal count reflecting their dedication and talent. A remarkable five students secured gold medals, showcasing exceptional mathematical prowess. Four students earned silver medals, and eight students were awarded bronze medals, demonstrating a strong overall team performance. Adding to the impressive tally, nineteen students received Merit Awards and two received Credit Awards.
SEAMO X encompasses six distinct divisions, catering to students from Grades 1-2 (Lower Primary) 3 – 4 (Middle Primary), 5 – 6, (Upper Primary) to Grades 7 – 10 (Junior). Each division presented a grueling 90-minute individual contest, pushing participants to their limits with challenging problems that demanded both sharp problem-solving skills and a deep understanding of mathematics.
