She is one of the finest trainees MTG ever has. With strong determination and intense passion for mathematics, Carmela Antoinette Lao, a junior student of St. Catholic School, has blown the competition away by winning the bronze medal in the 50th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) held in Bremen, Germany on July 10-22, 2009.
Standing taller and shining brighter with her IMO achievement, Carmela Antoinette Lao makes every Filipino stand prouder as she goes down into the Philippine mathematics history as the first female Filipino to grasp the award from the mother of all mathematics competition. Participated by 565 students from 104 countries, Carmela managed to prove her worth as she stood among the world’s best students in mathematics.
With this development, the entire MTG family congratulates Carmela Antoinette Lao for her success. Indeed, she showed that failure will never overtake anyone if one’s determination is strong enough. Her accomplishment in the IMO only articulates that every MTG kid has been born to achieve, to release his/her inner power and to fulfill his/her uniqueness in mathematics competition and in life.
