Twenty three top scorers in Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC) 10and 12 in the Philippines had been invited to take the 2010 American Invitational Mathematics Examination (AIME) conducted in March, 2010. However, only 16 appeared and took the AIME challenge. Thus, it is only they who are entitled to receive the AIME Participation Certificates.
The AIME is an intermediate examination between the AMC 10 or AMC 12 and the USAMO. All students who took the AMC 12 and achieved a score of 100 or more out of a possible 150 or were in the top 5% are invited to take the AIME. All students who took the AMC 10 and had a score of 120 or more out of a possible 150, or were in the top 1% also qualify for the AIME. It should be noted that the AIME is a more difficult exam than either the AMC 10 or 12 and the winners here deserve this honor and recognition.
Because of their remarkable performance in the 2010 AMC 10 and 12, the AIME qualifiers in the Philippines will receive Certificates of Distinction. Honor Roll of Distinction Pins will be given to the two AMC 10/12 official Filipino participants with scores in the top 1%.
Making it with flying colors by garnering the distinction pin in AMC 12 is Zheng Rong Wu of Zamboanga Chong Hua High School while Mary Joy Dimatatac of Manila Science High School got the distinction pin for AMC 10. The 14 other awardees of the certificates of distinction and certificates of participation for AIME are:
Dale Byron Chan Regional Science HS- Olongapo
Matthew Chua Pangasinan Universal Institute
Sarah Jane Cua Pangasinan Universal Institute

The AIME provides the exceptional students who are invited to take it with yet another opportunity to challenge their mathematical abilities. Like all examinations, it is but a means towards furthering mathematical development and interest. The real value of the examination is in the learning that can come from the preparation beforehand and from further thought and discussion of the solutions.
