Filipino math aces fixed on a great way to end the year, this time, cheering the New Year with their startling achievement as all of them managed to bring their equals to their knees during the 1st Challenge for Future Mathematicians 2014 held in Bogor, Indonesia on December 26-29, 2014.
The two Philippine teams of 4-member each swept the competition away for garnering 4 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze medals. Meanwhile, Philippine team A was declared overall champion.
From the seven gold medals allocated for the individual contest, four went to the Philippines, seized by each of these Filipino number crunchers, Immanuel Josiah A. Balete, grade 6, St. Stephen's High School, Vanessa Ryanne G. Julio, grade 5, Steven T. Reyes, grade 6 and Naomi Anne A. King, grade 6, from St. Jude Catholic School.
Winning silver medals were Dominic Lawrence R. Bermudez , grade 5, Notre Dame of Greater Manila; Jose Lorenzo P. Abad, grade 6, Colegio San Agustin – Makati, and Aiman Andrei M. Kue, grade 6, Zamboanga Chong Hua High School. Hooking the bronze medal was Maxinne Louise Dominique L. Co, grade 6 from Ateneo De Iloilo SMCS.
In the Puzzle Team Competition, Philippine team B composed of composed of Abad, Bermudez, Julio, Kue was placed 1st runner-up while Philippine team A composed of Balete, Co, King, Reyes ended up 2nd runner-up.
The competition drew a total of twenty one teams from Malaysia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines.
The two Philippine teams were headed by the team leaders, Mr. Elmer Apistar and Mr. Renard Eric Chua.
