The Filipino math wizards won their deal as sixty six of them reached first base, reaping medals, prize awards and high distinction certificates in the 2014 Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC) conducted in different MTG centers and selected schools in the Philippines last August 7, 2014.
This year, five whiz kids stayed ahead of the pack for winning medals, a recognition conferred to participants whose performance is outstanding within in a particular region/country within a year group. The awardees who turned up trumps for hooking the AMC medals are Stefan Marcus Ong, Grade 7 from St. Jude Catholic School, Christian Philip Gelera and Jose Ignacio Locsin, Grade 8 from Philippine Science High School - Main Campus, Clyde Wesley Ang, Grade 9 from Chiang Kai Shek College and Farrel Eldrian Wu, Grade 10 from MGC New Life Christian Academy.
The five AMC medal awardees of the junior and intermediate divisions are also winners of the Prize Awards. Along with them are these nine other Filipino mathletes who finished the contest with the prize award generally given to no more than 1 student for every 300 students within their region and year group. Dr. Mike Clapper, executive director of the Australian Mathematics Trust (AMT) who will be in the Philippines together with Australian ambassador to the Philippines, DOST and DepED secretaries or their representatives and other guests will personally present the award to the 66 AMC winners on Tuesday, October 28, 2014.
Moreover, AMT disclosed that the Philippines has several recipients of distinction and credit certificates. The MTG, Philippines will reveal them as soon as AMT provides the complete lists of participants winning the distinction and credit certificates. The AMC report package containing printed school reports, certificates and student reports from the Australian Mathematics Trust will be dispatched to the participating schools after MTG will finish sorting all certificates.
