PINOY MATHLETES SHINE ANEW IN CANADA MATH MATCH

Jun 03, 2015

Five of the Philippines' top math wizards have proven anew by winning medals in the Pascal, Cayley, and Fermat contests of the 2015 Canadian Mathematics Contests run by the Center for Education in Mathematics and Computing of the University of Waterloo in Canada.

Leading the long list of winners from the Philippines were Stefan Marcus Ong from St. Jude Catholic School who was just a point away from the perfect score in the Cayley Contest, Bryce Ainsley Sanchez from Grace Christian College who reached first base in the Pascal Contest and Tiffany Mae Ong from Immaculate Concepcion Academy, Airam Dave Cuyos from Makati Science High School and Liam Markus Chuafrom Pangasinan Universal Institute who stood and shared the same limelight as the Philippines’ best in the Fermat Contest.

Furthermore, the seasoned math ace, Clyde Wesley Ang from Chiang Kai Shek College did it with high score in the Euclid Contest, making him this year's lone recipient of the Euclid medal. Coming next in line were 14 equally smart and clever number crunchers who will receive certificates of distinction.

The Center for Education in Mathematics and Computing disclosed that from the approximately 60,590 participants worldwide, 330 of them were Filipinos who made it in the top 25% in each contest of the 2015 Canadian Mathematics Competition. This year the Pinoy whiz kids were able to grab this number of certificates of distinction: 106 in Pascal Contest, 106 in Cayley Contest and 108 in Fermat Contest.

The awarding ceremony for the medalists of the Cayley, Pascal, Fermat and Euclid contests and those of the Fryer, Galois and Hypatia contests will be at 1:30 in the afternoon on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at the Arellano University – Legarda.
