Five of the Philippines' top math wizards have proven anew by winning medals in the Pascal, Cayley, and Fermat contests of the 2016 Canadian Mathematics Contests run by the Center for Education in Mathematics and Computing (CEMC) of the University of Waterloo in Canada.
Leading the long list of winners in the Pascal Contest from the Philippines are Filbert Ephraim Wu from MGC New Life Christian Academy and Keean Tang from UNO High School. After having ended the contest with same score, both will receive a CEMC medal each.
Furthermore, Andres Rico Gonzales a student from Colegio De San Juan de Letran is the sole winner of CEMC medal for garnering the highest score in the Cayley Contest.
Furthermore, the CEMC earlier announced that Vicente Raphael Chan from Zamboanga Chong Hua High School and Sedrick Keh from Xavier School were the outstanding achievers in the Fermat Contest for obtaining the highest mark. Both also have an identical score but only Keh being a grade 10 student is qualified to participate in the Lloyd Auckland Invitational Mathematics Workshop for grades 10 and 11 students which will be at the University of Waterloo in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada on May 29 to June 4, 2016.
The CEMC disclosed that from the approximately 60,590 participants worldwide, 237 of them were Filipinos who made it in the top 25% in each contest of the 2015 Canadian Mathematics Competition. This year the Pinoy whiz kids were able to grab this number of certificates of distinction: 53 in Pascal Contest, 90 in Cayley Contest and 94 in Fermat Contest.
The medal presentation for the awardees of the Cayley, Pascal and Fermat contests of the 2016 Canadian Mathematics Contests will be at 9am on Saturday, May 21, 2016 during the 2016 MOSTP Closing Program at the Hope Christian High School.
