The Mathematics Trainers’ Guild (MTG) Philippines conducted the regional elimination round of the Family Math Quest a first of its kind parent-child tandem math competition in selected MTG centers in October this year.

It was a math contest where a parent (a mother or father) and a child (Grade 1 or 2) paired up forming a tandem to solve mathematical problems as a team. Its objectives are to provide opportunities for parents and children to work together to achieve mathematical excellence; develop the family’s level math skills and knowledge; and promote the parent-child tandem a challenging, engaging mathematical experience that is both competitive and educational.

The winners of every region qualified for the national finals are the champion teams composed of parent- child (grade 1) team and parent-child (grade 2) team.

Furthermore, the combined scores of every champion pair in each grade level in the Visayas area and the combined scores of every champion pair in each grade level in the Mindanao area have been ranked. The champion pair with the highest combined score in each grade level in the Visayas area and Mindanao area will get FREE round-trip plane tickets (non-convertible to cash) to participate in the national final set in January 28, 2017.

The teams with the highest score in the Mindanao area are Grade 1 parent Mrs. Cathlyn Luy and Child Linnus Sebastian Luy Madrazo from Zamboanga Chong Hua High School and Grade 2 parent      Mr.Cyrus Toreña and child Christopher Torreña from Precious International High School.
