PHL IS OVERALL CHAMPION IN 2017 ITMO
The Philippines is hailed overall champion in key stage II (elementary division) at the recently concluded 2017 International Teenagers Mathematics Olympiad held in City of Davao on November 8 – 12, 2017.
The Philippine team D composed of John Florence A. Dizon from Calamba Elementary School – Special Science Class, Juan Rafael M. Landicho from Stonyhurst Southville International School, Walsh Nico Adrian L. Letran and Alvann Walter W. Paredes Dy from St. Jude Catholic School was proclaimed overall champion for winning 3 gold and 1 bronze medals, and for ending up as champion and 1st-runner up in the team and group contests under Key Stage II or elementary division. A team from Indonesia was slated, overall first runner-up and Philippine team C was declared overall second runner-up.
In the Key Stage III, Philippine team B was declared overall first runner-up. It is composed of Immanuel Josiah A. Balete from St. Stephen's High School, Eion Nikolai S. Chua from International School Manila, Vincent U. Dela Cruz from Valenzuela City School of Mathematics And Science and Bryce Ainsley Sanchez from Grace Christian College. A team from Thailand was ranked champion and an Indonesian team was placed 2nd runner-up in the overall standing in key stage III.
Meanwhile, Eion Nikolai S. Chua from International School Manila was the last man standing in the puzzle competition, beating sixty three others from fifteen countries, thus earning the title, champion!
The 2017 ITMO was attended by 64 teams from Bulgaria, Cambodia, China, Indonesia, India, Iran, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, Russia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Taiwan, Vietnam and the Philippines.
