PH WINS BRONZE MEDALS IN JUNIOR BALKAN MATH OLYMPIAD

Sep 17, 2020

The Philippine team won three bronze medals at the 24th Junior Balkan Mathematical Olympiad (JBMO 2020) organized by the Mathematical Society of Southeastern Europe (MASSEE) and hosted by the Hellenic Mathematical Society (HMS) on September 11, 2020.

Because of the COVID19 pandemic, the competition was held virtually giving way to only 70 students from 18 countries to stand taller, feel prouder and shine brighter for winning either gold, silver and bronze medals!

Winding up the contest with flying colors for bagging a bronze medal each were Filbert Ephraim S. Wu, Grade 9, from Victory Christian International School, Alvann Walter W. Paredes Dy, and Walsh Nico Adrian L. Letran, Grade 8, both from Saint Jude Catholic School.

The other members of the Philippine team whose mental synergy played a big factor were Ethan Jared Reyes Chan, Grade 8 from British School Manila, Armea Helena Sien G. Dimayacyac, and John David F. Magnaye, Grade 8, both from Philippine Science High School - Main Campus.

Mr. Renard Chua, coach and team leader, assured that MTG Philippines will continue to “fulfill the potential of Filipino students in mathematics so they could make breakthroughs in all aspects of life in the Philippines and the world”. Miss Hazel Joy Shi, deputy team leader and coach, said that she was pleased with the hard work of the Philippine team.

The countries that participated in the JBMO 2020 were Albania, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, France, Hellas, Indonesia, North Macedonia, Philippines, Republic of Moldova, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Tajikistan, Turkey and Turkmenistan.
